Deed/Title Fraud Strike Force
Early in 2024, the Auditor’s office joined the County Recorder, County Treasurer, County Commissioners, and the
County Prosecuting Attorney to create a Deed/Title Fraud Strike Force. It issued several recommendations to
enhance existing protections and support new legislation to combat fraud in the property transfer process.
> Supporting legislation that would give more authority to the Auditor’s office to reject fraudulent
documents, and the authority for the Recorder and Auditor to require photo ID for certain transfer and
conveyance transactions
> Ensuring the transfer process, once begun, is completed.
> Finding ways to work with Franklin County courts to expedite returning properties involved in fraudulent
transfers to their rightful owners.
Tax Incentive Review Council
The Franklin County Auditor serves as the chair of the Tax Incentive Review Council (TIRC) and administers the tax
incentives created by municipalities. The Auditor’s goal is to ensure each incentive provides the benefits that were
promised to our communities and that the ongoing status of each tax incentive awarded remains transparent.
